COVID-19

University operation in the winter semester 2021/22

The Angewandte means to combine safety with as few restrictions as possible for all students, staff members, and visitors.
Therefore, all measures aim at the continuation of on-site teaching and research activities whenever possible, while reducing to the greatest possible extent any risk of infection at the Angewandte – please also see the rectorate’s vaccination appeal.

Effective from October 2021, the University will resume its on-site operations throughout, and all rooms may be used without restrictions – under the proviso that the 2.5G ruling is strictly adhered to. A general FFP2 mask obligation applies. For detailed regulations applicable to the winter semester 2021/22, please see here.

2.5G ruling and access to the University premises

Access to all University buildings for both university members and external persons is only possible by adhering to the 2.5G ruling (vaccinated, recovered from infection, PCR-tested)
The appropriate evidence as well as own photo ID must be carried at all times (see below)

Access to the university buildings

One of the following verifications is required for entry:

For those tested:

  • Negative PCR test confirmation e.g. "Alles gurgelt" (valid for 48hrs)

For recovered persons:

  • Segregation certificate (valid for 6 months),
  • Medical certificate of covid disease (valid for 6 months)

For vaccinated:
A complete COVID-19 vaccination must be proven.

Persons are considered to be fully vaccinated

  • In the case of two-part vaccination from the second vaccination (valid for 9 months, after that it needs a 3rd dose)
  • in the case of vaccination with Johnson & Johnson vaccine, from the 22nd day after vaccination (valid for 270 days, from 3 January it needs a 2nd dose)
  • in the case of convalescents, from the date of vaccination (valid for 9 months, after that it needs a 3rd dose)

At the Angewandte, only vaccines approved in Austria/EU are currently recognized:

  • Comirnaty (BioNTech and Pfizer)
  • Spikevax (Moderna)
  • Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca)
  • COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen (Johnson & Johnson)

Immunizations with all other vaccines (e.g. Sputnik, Sinopharm) are not valid proof, i.e. these students must still provide other valid proof (PCR test).

Approved certificates:

  • EU Digital COVID Certificate
  • Yellow vaccination certificate
  • Proof of vaccination by your doctor or
  • Electronic vaccination certificate at gesundheit.gv.at

FFP2 mask obligation and general hygiene measures

The FFP2 mask must be worn at all times in all indoor areas of the university and may only be removed when alone in a room. For outdoor areas, the same new regulation applies as in public spaces.

In addition to wearing an FFP2 mask, please continue to observe the generally known hygiene regulations (thorough hand hygiene, cough etiquette, regular ventilation as well as surface disinfection).

Urgent recommendations

Since even vaccinated persons can contract the coronavirus and pass on the infection, albeit with a significantly lower risk, we would once again like to strongly recommend that all university members - vaccinated or not - be tested at least twice a week using the PCR procedure.
"Alles gurgelt" PCR test kits are available for free collection at the porter's lodge and can be handed in at the drop-off boxes provided next to the main entrances. The boxes are emptied on weekdays between 2 and 5 pm.

The high vaccination rate at the Angewandte has already helped us a lot this semester in maintaining operations, so we recommend the first, second or especially the third vaccination, depending on your personal history! Info on the numerous vaccination options in Vienna can be found here: https://impfservice.wien/

All regulations in detail can be found as usual at www.dieangewandte.at/covid19.
