Angewandte Mentoring Program
Application deadline: 15 June 2022
With 2022, the University of Applied Arts Vienna offers for the first time a mentoring program for female junior staff who wish to progress further in their artistic or academic careers.
What is the Angewandte Mentoring Program?
The Angewandte Mentoring Program represents a support measure in the meaning of university equality. The goal is to take countermeasures
against the reduced proportion of women on the career ladder as the workforce’s qualifications (from studies to professorship)
increase. To achieve this, motivated young female artists and scientists are supported in the early planning of their own
professional careers through an exchange with experienced international artists and scientists.
Potential contents of the program:
- Assessing the own, current situation – reflecting on the own artistic and/or scientific work and/or the own research topic
- Identifying career-relevant factors
- Developing a roadmap for the own professional path
- Gaining insight into (informal) structures at e.g. universities, and learn about important venues or „sites“ that may be useful to promote the own professional visibility
- Analyzing, building and expanding artistic, scientific and university networks
Which activities or services are included in the Angewandte Mentoring Program?
The Angewandte will provide the necessary work materials (checklist for analyzing goals and various forms such as the mentoring agreement, reflection and quality assurance records), it will establish contact with the mentor of choice and it will cover travel and accommodation costs incurred through the mentoring program.
Program schedule:
- Kick-off date
- Meeting between mentee and mentor
- 4 meetings at 3 days each, within Europe, within 12 months
- Travel and accommodation costs are subject to the Angewandte business trip regulations applicable at the time of the event.
- While the mentoring process is under way, applicants are to figure out, on their own initiative and in agreement with the mentor, a potential recognition or return favor for the mentor. (This program item should not be regarded as a prerequisite but as an opportunity). For instance, upon request one of the four trips could be used to invite the mentor to the Angewandte in Vienna. The schedule on site is to be developed by the mentee in agreement with the mentor, and consulting the institutes or departments involved, if applicable. Schedule items could be a lecture, a workshop, participating in an exhibition, or the joint visit of an event, all with the intention of bringing mentor and mentee closer together professionally. The mentoring program will cover the travel and accommodation costs (as per business trip regulations) for this meeting, any additional fees or costs are to be clarified by the mentee with the organizing bodies.
- Minutes / work records are to be taken of all meetings.
- Final reflection and feedback discussion
How is the matching between mentee and mentor brought about?
The Angewandte Mentoring Program is very much based on personal initiative.- The applicants themselves suggest international artists or scientists as mentors. (In this regard, please also take a look at the checklist on matching mentee – mentor in the download area.)
- If the decision is positive, the Angewandte will present a request to the mentor of choice and inform them about the support
program.
Who is eligible to apply?
The Angewandte Mentoring Program is targeted at female artistic and scientific members of staff employed at the Angewandte. How do I apply?
