Celina Beck und Emma Lakkala: Re/writing Femininity

An event as part of the lecture series "Kunst - Forschung - Geschlecht" (Art - Research - Gender).
Tradwives, Visual Aesthetics of Class, and Politics of Remembrance
Turning to two key tradwives, we study how raced, classed and gendered visuals encode reactionary ideals of labor and femininity, woven into neoliberal logics of choice and freedom. Which material conditions enable these, and how might we contest them through scientific/artistic practice in an era marked by right-wing revival and the commodification of the self, liberation and feminist politics?

Anti-gender and digital authoritarianism
In the academic year 2025/26, the lecture series looks at anti-gender politics and policies in art, culture and society in the digital realm. The series asks how reactionary actors dismantle concepts of equality, justice, and sexual/reproductive rights, especially in and through digital media. Furthermore, it wants to highlight artistic practices and societal alliances that disrupt these media narratives, and generate counter-narratives to the anti-liberal, authoritarian, discriminatory, racist and extremist ideologies.
