Sofia Bempeza: Anti-Gender Narratives Beyond Borders and Dissident Responses in Greece

An event as part of the lecture series "Kunst - Forschung - Geschlecht" (Art - Research - Gender).
Reactionary, authoritarian, and anti-gender ideologies and the queer-feminist struggles in Greece
The lecture highlights current anti-gender politics including reactionary discourses, alt-right strategies, and multiple (institutional) actors that seek to undermine societal and legal progress for intersectional feminism and the LGBTQ+ movement. In this vein, it draws attention on the anti-gender arguments and the imports of the white (male) supremacy ideology  in the Greek context and strikes out the collective struggles for defending women's and LGBTQ+ rights.

Anti-gender and digital authoritarianism
In the academic year 2025/26, the lecture series looks at anti-gender politics and policies in art, culture and society in the digital realm. The series asks how reactionary actors dismantle concepts of equality, justice, and sexual/reproductive rights, especially in and through digital media. Furthermore, it wants to highlight artistic practices and societal alliances that disrupt these media narratives, and generate counter-narratives to the anti-liberal, authoritarian, discriminatory, racist and extremist ideologies.
