Assessing anti-gender discourses
through the lens of radicality and mainstreamingFeminism’s call for radical change is increasingly countered
by far-right and anti-gender actors who label it as dangerously radical while casting themselves as rebellious defenders of
“ordinary people”. Drawing on findings from our projects, this lecture examines how this dual strategy operates across digital
communication and beyond, and highlights emerging transfeminist counterstrategies.

Anti-gender and digital authoritarianism
In the academic year 2025/26, the lecture series looks at anti-gender politics and policies in art, culture and society
in the digital realm. The series asks how reactionary actors dismantle concepts of equality, justice, and sexual/reproductive
rights, especially in and through digital media. Furthermore, it wants to highlight artistic practices and societal alliances
that disrupt these media narratives, and generate counter-narratives to the anti-liberal, authoritarian, discriminatory, racist
and extremist ideologies.
