COVID-19: University operations summer semester 2022

24. February 2022
Dear university members,

We are pleased to be able to reopen the Angewandte shortly after the start of the summer semester 2022 without restrictions and with full presence for all areas and would like to inform you herewith about the new regulations of university operations, which result from our experiences of the last semesters and the recently announced opening steps of the federal government.

In view of forecasts by experts, who expect a significant decrease in the number of infections in Austria only from mid-March, and with the aim of continuing to be able to guarantee the best possible protection against infection with Covid 19 at the Angewandte, we envisage the following two phases for this opening - especially with regard to large events and class meetings at the beginning of the semester.

PHASE 1
Mon 28.2.2022 until Sun 13.3.2022

General PCR test obligation

Until 13.3.2022, access to all university buildings is only permitted with a valid PCR test (not older than 48 hours). A corresponding certificate (including QR code) and photo ID must be carried and presented at the entrances or at the random checks by the "health checkers".
Persons who have had a Corona infection within the last 90 days do not need a PCR test. In this case, appropriate proof must be presented for admission (certificate of recovery, certificate of segregation).

FFP2 mask requirement

The FFP2 mask must be worn at all times in all indoor areas of the university and may only be removed when you are alone in a room. For outdoor areas, the same regulation applies as in public spaces.

As the PCR test obligation in phase 1 (28.2.2022 to 13.3.2022) is a very high protection measure, speakers are allowed to remove the FFP2 mask during their lecture at events.

Teaching

All artistic and scientific courses take place in presence. Please do not forget to check the current entries in Base!

Events

Events can take place again in the summer semester after approval by the Event Management (veranstaltungen@uni-ak.ac.at) and in compliance with the general access regulations and protective measures at the Angewandte. Until 13.3. the access rules described above also apply to public events in university buildings.
Catering is not permitted.

Planning, Service and Administration

Teams no longer need to be formed in administrative departments and offices; simultaneous work on site is possible again.

PHASE 2

From Monday 14.3.2022, access to the university buildings will again be unrestricted.

All controls at the entrances and in the university premises will be discontinued, the presentation of a G status (vaccinated, recovered or tested) is no longer required. The access cards have also been reactivated for the side entrances.

FFP2 masks must be worn at all times, and masks may only be removed when alone in a room and only during consumption in the refectory/cafeteria. Lecturers must also wear the FFP2 mask during speaking without exception.

All other regulations can be read in detail here.

As long as the offer of free PCR gargle tests by the City of Vienna exists, the possibility to take the test at the Angewandte remains. We recommend that you make use of this offer until further notice and get tested regularly.

COVID cases must continue to be reported immediately to the COVID staff office (covid@uni-ak.ac.at, +43 664 883 45 033). Persons who have been diagnosed with a COVID infection are not allowed to enter the university buildings until a negative PCR test result proves that they can no longer infect other persons with COVID. Irrespective of the official procedure for contact persons, we appeal to all university members not to enter the university for 5 days if a person in the same household has contracted COVID.

We are aware that with the new regulations and the extensive openings from 14 March we are once again taking a singular path in the Austrian university landscape and hope to return to normal university operations. We will constantly evaluate the situation and make adjustments where necessary.

We wish you a successful start to the semester!

With best regards
Gerald Bast, Bernhard Kernegger, Barbara Putz-Plecko, Eva Maria Stadler und Maria Zettler
