SAMMELN, ANEIGNEN, ÜBERSETZEN – Rosalia Rothansl, Mileva Stoisavljevic-Roller und die moderne Hausindustrie

Stefanie Kitzberger & Eva Klimpel (eds.)

The book documents the results of a teaching collaboration between the institute Collection and Archive and the department of Expanded Museum Studies at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Against the background of a conservation survey of the textile collections of artists Rosalia Rothansl and Mileva Stoisavljevic-Roller – composed of artistic models and teaching aids as well as student works – the texts explore artistic procedures of appropriation, decontextualization and reinterpretation of craft techniques and textile objects from rural regions of the former Habsburg Monarchy in the context of the Vienna Kunstgewerbeschule. Furthermore they shed light on the challenges and potentials of working with historically evolved collections.
