The University of Applied Arts is consolidating its doctoral programmes in a Doctoral Centre

05. August 2025
By establishing a new Doctoral Centre, the University of Applied Arts Vienna is taking another step towards raising the profile and visibility of its research-driven development in art and science. While individual programmes in scientific, artistic and artistic-scientific doctorates have been developed in recent years, the new organisational structure will consolidate and further integrate them.
With the new Doctoral Centre, we are looking to the future: The Support Art and Research team (headed by Alexander Damianisch) is responsible for the administrative support of the doctoral programmes, working closely with the programme leads: Prof. Miya Yoshida for the artistic research PhD programme, the Art x Science School for Transformation for the interdisciplinary PhD programme, and our colleagues in scientific doctoral programmes.

The Doctoral Centre creates a shared, quality-assuring and diverse unit that takes into consideration the specific characteristics of the individual programmes. It promotes synergies in the supervision and administration, communication and publication of respective doctoral projects, thereby strengthening the exchange between the programmes. This will establish a support structure for all those involved, helping to strategically secure and develop the research-based work at Angewandte as well as raise national and international awareness.
