University Professorship
(m/f/d) for drawing and printmaking
Application deadline: 12.03.2026 - 23.04.2026
For
over 150 years, the University of Applied Arts Vienna – the Angewandte – has been engaged in reflecting on and, above all,
shaping major social transformation processes. Today, it is above all the interplay of art, design, and science, of research,
teaching, and transfer, that provides the University of Applied Arts with the best conditions for reflecting on and helping
to shape the major challenges of our time, thereby promoting an open, democratic, and resilient society.
The
"Fine Arts" program aims to contribute to critical reflection on the present through artistic and scientific education. The
opening up and dynamization of artistic disciplines is a core element of this field, which is also supported by the connection
between different visualization cultures in art and science – always with the aim of promoting independent and critical thinking.
In
this context, drawing and printmaking are forms of artistic expression that play a special role in the visual arts in the
history, present, and future of the University of Applied Arts: Drawing is the content-related and artistic basis for the
conception of the visual work and mediates between thinking and tactile knowledge. Printmaking offers the haptic, physical
experience of printing and reproduction as well as the mechanical creation of images in art.
The University
of Applied Arts Vienna is seeking to fill the following position as of March 1, 2027
UNIVERSITY PROFESSORSHIP (m/f/d)
FOR DRAWING AND PRINTMAKING
(40 hours per week)
for the
central artistic subject in the "Drawing and Printmaking" branch of the "Fine Arts" study program.
The professorship
will be located at the Institute of Fine and Media Arts within the field of study "Fine Arts" with the departments of Photography,
Painting (and Animated Film), Site-Specific Art, and Sculpture and Space. It will initially be filled for a limited period
of five years, with the possibility of a later contract extension by mutual agreement.
Drawing and analog
printmaking are positioned at the University of Applied Arts as an alternative to or artistic connection with digital image
media. They form a unique interface for exploring creative possibilities in the technological trade-off between hand and machine
and the starting point for exploring the development potential of drawing and printmaking.
The field of study also serves
as an interface for students of other artistic disciplines at the University of Applied Arts: the printmaking workshops are
open to students of all
disciplines at the university, as are the basic drawing courses (e.g., nude drawing,
nature study).
Tasks and profile of the professorship
We are looking
for an internationally renowned artist with an excellent standing in the international art world who has set standards through
their artistic work and has knowledge of current art discourses and methods – based on drawing and (print) graphics. Applicants

The
core tasks of the professorship include artistic teaching and research in the field of drawing, printmaking, and related artistic
fields. Teaching and research should also be further developed in dialogue with current artistic trends and other disciplines
at the university. Among other things, four print workshops are available for this purpose, which are led by teachers with

interests, and supervising artistic research and final theses in the "Fine Arts" diploma program
• Proven leadership
experience and a cooperative and situational understanding of leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
• Excellent
English skills and good written and spoken German skills; courses are held in German and English

• International contacts in the arts and culture sector to support students and graduates in their studies
and to build national and international networks
• Willingness to supervise students as part of the PhD in Arts program
at the University of Applied Arts Vienna
In order to remain a vibrant and authentic university, we require the visible
and continuous presence of our professors in Vienna.
