The University of Applied Arts Vienna
is looking for a university assistant (m/f/d, 20 hours per week, initially limited to one year, with a possible
option of extend) for the Conservation and Restoration program at the Institute of Conservation – Textile Conservation Department,
to start as soon as possible.
Employment requirements:
· Completed study degree
in textile conservation
· Several years of practical work experience
· Strong interest in teaching and
research with students as well as in the further development of the field of textile conservation
· Enthusiasm
and enjoyment of working with students in practical conservation-restoration classes (ZKF), in project work in Austria and
abroad, and in independent teaching (lectures, seminars, exercises, workshops, excursions)
· Teaching skills, teaching
experience desirable, creativity and openness to new formats of learning between theory and practice
· Organizational
skills, very good teamwork and communication skills
· Access to international networks and relevant experts
· Expertise
in at least one field of textile conservation relevant to the present day (e.g., synthetic materials, pesticides/hazardous
substances in collections, IPM in climate change, intangible heritage conservation, community-based conservation, female knowledge
and craftswomanship, colonial provenance research and repatriation)
· Excellent written and spoken German and English
skills
· If you do not have German language skills, you must provide proof that you have acquired level B1 within
2 years of starting work if your contract is extended
Job description:
· Supervising
and instructing students in practical conservation and restoration classes (ZKF), in project work in Austria and abroad, and
in independent teaching (lectures, seminars, exercises, workshops, excursions)
· Teaching and project organization,
object acquisition
· Further development of textile conservation together with students and teachers in the department
and with other fields of study or workshops at the University of Applied Arts Vienna
· Participation in the reorientation
of the department and the field of study
· Independent research activity
· Expansion and maintenance
of the workshop
The minimum monthly salary for this position is currently € 1,888.05 gross (14 times per year,
based on 20 hours per week) and may be increased accordingly based on previous experience specific to the position in accordance
with the collective agreement for universities (B1, salary scale for scientific/artistic university staff).
