The University of Applied Arts Vienna is looking for
a University Assistant (prae-doc) at the Department of Transcultural Studies, starting January 2nd, 2026.
The full-time position (40 hours/week) is limited until January 15, 2027 (parental leave replacement).
Requirements
Master
degree or equivalent academic qualification
PhD project in the Humanities or Social Sciences in thematic areas relevant
to the department
Responsibilities and required skills
Independent work
on research project (PhD)
Teaching assignments in accordance with the legal provisions of the Austrian “Kollektivvertrag”
(KV) (teaching must be possible in German or English)
Assisting in administrative tasks of the department related
to research and teaching
Knowledge of decolonial / postcolonial theories and criticism, coloniality, and global power
relations
Good command of English
German language skills (for administrative contexts and communication with
students)
Ability to work independently
Specific qualifications and skills
Experience
with interdisciplinary work settings in scholarly and artistic fields
Critical approaches to power structures and
their social realities (e.g., theories of sexuality, gender, class relations, theories of racism, queer and trans*theoretical
approaches)
Knowledge of debates in cultural studies and media theory
Previous teaching experiences
The
minimum monthly salary for this position is currently € 3714,80 gross (14x per year for 40 hours per week)
and can be increased accordingly by taking into account job-specific previous experience in accordance with the collective
agreement of the universities (B1, salary scheme for academic/artistic university staff).
