The University of Applied Arts Vienna is seeking an artistic/research assistant (m/f/d, 20 hours per week, fixed-term contract for 4 years) for the Department of Art and Communicative Practice (KKP) to start on January 1, 2026.


The Department of Art and Communicative Practice (KKP) is filling an artistic/research position with a focus on collective (public) formats, artistic-educational research, and project management in the department. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong aptitude for organization, teamwork, and transdisciplinary and content-related exchange in relation to teaching, research areas, and project development in the department. https://kkp.uni-ak.ac.at/


The KKP department is part of the teacher training program at the University of Applied Arts. KKP is dedicated to anti-discriminatory artistic practice, art education, and art pedagogy based on an intersectional perspective of art and cultural production.


Employment requirements

  • A university degree in a relevant artistic or scientific subject
  • Artistic/research/design practice
  • Experience in text work and image editing, including in digital formats
  • Experience in interdisciplinary education and/or research projects
  • Good written and oral communication skills in German and English
  • High organizational and communication skills
  • Sensitivity to differences in terms of intersectionality and diversity (e.g., gender, race, class, ability)
  • Willingness to cooperate, ability to work in a team, and social skills


Applicants should have the following qualifications:

  • Pursue an artistic/research/design practice—preferably with a transdisciplinary orientation and a focus on topics in the field of education, such as intersectionality, diversity, community work, climate justice, digitality, and social transformation processes
  • Demonstrate practical experience and knowledge in the field of contemporary art, graphic design, and education
  • Have an interest in exploring issues of knowledge transfer and art education
  • Be motivated to make the department's content and formats publicly accessible through collective work processes
  • Have experience with interdisciplinary projects (national/international)


Job profile:

Supporting the department’s management and acting as an interface with the KKP team, e.g.:

  • Collaborating on the conceptual and strategic development of teaching and research priorities within the KKP department of the teacher training program
  • Organizing and supervising the KKP event series and other public formats (e.g., workshops, symposia, exhibitions, guest relations)
  • Visual communication and editorial work (images and text)
  • Supporting the implementation of the new teacher training curriculum and the implementation of ongoing performance agreements in artistic teacher training
  • Supporting the department's research projects and partnerships, archiving KKP formats, checking applications, etc.
  • Outreach teacher training networks


The minimum monthly salary for this position is currently €1,857.40 gross (14x per year for 20 hours per week) and may be increased accordingly based on previous experience specific to the position in accordance with the collective agreement for universities (B1, salary scale for academic/artistic university staff).
