Call for applications for the INHABIT artist-in-residence programme at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics

Due date: 01. September 2026

The INHABIT artist-in-residence programme invites artists from various disciplines to work alongside researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt. For a scientific research institute that explores questions of aesthetics, the presence of artistic work and the stimulating impetus it provides are of particular importance.

The INHABIT Artist-in-Residence programme at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics is aimed at internationally active artists working in the fields of the performing arts, music, sound and film. During a four-month residency, the selected artists collaborate with the Institute’s researchers to develop new artistic projects or further explore existing work within a scientific context. The programme provides a space for interdisciplinary exchange, experimentation and collaboration; the resulting works are subsequently presented to the public in cooperation with cultural institutions in Frankfurt.

Applications are open to established artists with an independent artistic practice, an interest in scientific questions and an openness to dialogue with researchers.

Applications must be submitted exclusively via the Institute’s careers portal
