So lenkt der Künstler unsere Aufmerksamkeit auf unser eigenes Verständnis von Vergangenheit und Gegenwart
und auf unsere Vorstellungen von der Zukunft und damit verbundene Ängste. Unter dem Titel „Time Traveler Loop“ konzentriert
sich das zweite Projekt auf die verzerrte Wahrnehmung vom Vergehen der Zeit während eines Spaziergangs durch die Straßen von
Havanna, in einer faszinierenden Zeitlupenkomposition, die uns im Zweifel darüber lässt, ob die Zeit hier vorwärts oder rückwärts
schreitet.
Cuban Time, within a combination of photographs and videos intends to explore a broad spectrum of the
relationships that Cuban people have with time, in an interaction of two different projects: “Hotel Habana” focuses
on the possibility to see the same place in different periods, as superimposed layers, as if time were a transparent layer
that we could see through. The artist calls our attention on how we understand the past, the present, and how we imagine or
fear the future. The second project “Time Traveler Loop” focuses on the distortion of the perception of the passing
of time, while wandering the streets of Havana, in a mesmerizing slow-motion composition that doesn‘t let us know if time
goes forward or backwards.
Nelson Ramirez de Arellano Conde, geboren 1969 in Berlin, Deutschland. Lebt und
arbeitet seit 1994 in Habana, Kuba, als Teil des Künstlerduos „Liudmila & Nelson“ (in Zusammenarbeit mit der Künstlerin
Liudmila Velasco). Seit 2010 Direktor und Kurator der Fototeca de Cuba (Cuban National Center for Photography). Er gestaltete
den kubanischen Pavillon auf der 55. Kunstbiennale Venedig.
