Dr. Obaro Ejimiwe, professionally
known as Ghostpoet, is a British-Nigerian interdisciplinary artist whose practice moves across music, sound, visual art, film
and theatre. Listening, both as a creative method and as a way of understanding environments, memory and human experience,
sits at the centre of his work.
Across five studio albums, Ejimiwe has developed a distinctive musical language
combining atmospheric electronics and live instrumentation with fragmented narratives drawn from everyday life. His debut
album, Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam, and third album, Shedding Skin, were both nominated for the Mercury Prize.
His recent releases and performances have increasingly explored ambient composition, field recording, spatial sound and improvisation.
His work and performances have been presented at institutions and venues including Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Kampnagel,
SAVVY Contemporary, Volksbühne and the Neue Nationalgalerie.
Ejimiwe’s practice is shaped by an ongoing interest
in how ordinary sounds can become artistic material: how listening changes when context is removed, how environments hold
social and emotional information, and how recording can act as a form of attention rather than simple documentation.
He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Arts by Coventry University in 2022. Born in London and currently based in Berlin,
he continues to develop work across sound, performance, moving image and artistic research.
