Acupuncturing Accra
[A]FA Public Panel Discussion
As part of ACCRA—one50, the Foundation for Contemporary
Art—Ghana, in collaboration with [Applied] Foreign Affairs (Institute of Architecture (IoA)) presents a public panel discussion
on Acupuncturing Accra, a metropolitan-scale artistic research, mapping, and archiving project exploring three urban
nodes in Adabraka, Dansoman, and Madina.
Acupuncturing Accra approaches these neighbourhoods
as spaces where everyday practices, multiple social networks, histories, and spatial manifestations intersect. Through close
attention to these urban nodes, the project team—comprising students from the IoA and young Accra-based artists and designers—traces
the narratives, relationships, and transformations that shape Accra’s identities and its continually evolving urban fabric.
The panel extends these investigations into a broader public discourse, bringing together voices with diverse perspectives
on Accra to reflect on the historical entanglements, transformations, lived realities, and narratives that shape these three
urban nodes and the city beyond.
What do Dansoman, Adabraka, and Madina reveal about Accra? How do different histories,
social networks, and forms of urban life intersect within these neighbourhoods? And what might closer attention to these urban
nodes reveal about the city’s changing fabric and possible futures?
