An event
organized by the Department of Painting & Animated Film
Sarah Bogner brings together acrylic paint, the
impasto application of egg tempera, and cloudy ink in direct confrontation. The horses in her paintings are playful centaurs
and Medusa’s gentle mares; they wear baseball caps and hats, have companions emerging from their bodies, and anthropomorphic
faces. They are at home in the caves of Lascaux, on Renaissance frescoes, and in the salons of classical modernism. Bogner’s
paintings—including her still lifes featuring cabbages, peonies, or oranges—have an immediate quality reminiscent of songs.
Her oeuvre is a bouquet of motifs and associative worlds, woven together through her distinctive visual language.
Sarah Bogner lives and works in Vienna as a painter and musician and is part of the artist-book
publishing house Harpune. From 2004 to 2006, she studied at the Institute for Electroacoustic Music and Composition at the
University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 2008, she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
