Than Ivy brings together works by 37 students from the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the Accademia di Belle Arti
di Venezia and the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. The exhibition was organised as part of an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme
(BIP) and marks the start of a multi-year collaboration between the three art universities.
The project takes as its starting point an exploration of contemporary forms of identity, interconnectedness
and exchange. Drawing on the concept of the rhizome developed by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, the exhibition examines
decentralised, relational and multi-layered forms of thought and interaction. This approach is complemented by contributions
from microbiology, which also reflect on the rhizome as a biological model. The image of the ivy serves as a metaphor for
growth, connection and expansion across different spaces.
On display are works from various artistic fields, including
installation, painting, sculpture, video and multimedia formats. The exhibition is conceived as a shared space for research
and production, in which artistic, scientific and social perspectives interact.
The exhibition project was preceded
by a week-long workshop in Venice, during which students and lecturers worked together on production, installation and exchange.
The collaboration also includes digital models for joint exhibition planning, as well as graphic and editorial contributions
developed by students, and much more.
