The conference will cast a theoretical light on the specific questions of the exhibition
from a variety of standpoints. The main themes will be the history of separating the genres of fine and applied arts, as well
as how certain applied media have developed to the present day. Also at issue is the valence of craftsmanship as well as the
role of the MAK [Museum of Art and Industry] and the Kunstgewerbeschule Wien [Vienna School of Arts and
Crafts]. The lectures and the podium discussion afterwards are meant to contribute to developing a vision for the workshops
at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
