performative materiality
Artistic Research PhD Project
Michael Kargl 2021
Supervisor Brigitte Kowanz
performative materiality is an experimentally designed research project around the question of which roles the material takes on in the artistic working process.
In artistic research work, conventional ideas about material and materiality are examined for their concrete meaning for art production and successively expanded.
The works on display in the exhibition lead us through the experimental process that has been ongoing since 2014 and show the development of a thesis that no longer sees material as an ontologically blank slate, but rather ascribes to it a power of its own that manifests itself in the intraactions of all those involved in the artistic working process.
