University of Alberta, Augustana Faculty Augustana faculty is a living laboratory
of teaching innovation at the University of Alberta. In that spirit, associate professor of visual arts, Julian Forrest and
I developed an interdisciplinary course exploring convergent aspects of visual arts and biology. Through three rounds of offering
AUIDS 276 which later was renamed into AUART 298, we came to the conclusion that we just stepped ankle-deep into the ocean
of underexplored relations which do exist between these distant disciplines. In my presentation, I will focus on the role
of colours and patterns in the living systems. However, I am going to shift the point of view from biology to the convergent
zone between biology and visual arts, asking the ultimate question: Is there art in nature?
