showing designs of graduates 2019
The department of fashion design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna is
once again inviting the public to the Show Modeklasse (formerly Show Angewandte). For the fifth - and last - time under the
direction of Hussein Chalayan, students and graduates will be presenting their latest collections. For the first time the
fashion show will be taking place in the University’s own building.
Show Modeklasse 19 on Thursday, June
6, 2019 at 6.30 pm and 8.30 pm at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, 1030 Vienna, Vordere Zollamtsstrasse 7 New event location at the University’s buildingFor the first time the fashion
show will be taking place in the University’s own building. The brand new University building has only recently - October
2018 - been open to students, teachers and members of the staff and now allows the University to welcome the guests to the
in-house event hall. To host the fashion show in its own building has been a wish for many years, and now, beginning this
season it will be possible. The students of Studio Hani Rashid at the Angewandte’s Institute of Architecture will be creating
a visionary stage design for this year’s show.
Hussein Chalayan takes leave after five yearsThe Show Modeklasse 19 will be the last one under the direction of Hussein Chalayan as the renowned fashion designer will
be saying goodbye to Vienna at the end of this academic year. Through five years of teaching Chalayan has accompanied and
supervised his students with heart and soul, great precision, enthusiasm and passion.
An ongoing appointment procedure
for the professorship of fashion design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna is already taking place over a period of
several months. Since the beginning of the 1980s, the chair of the Vienna department of fashion design has been held by internationally
successful designers, including the legendary Karl Lagerfeld who recently passed away as well as Jil Sander, Vivienne Westwood,
Helmut Lang, Raf Simons, Viktor&Rolf, and Bernhard Willhelm, Chalayan’s predecessor.
Again 2 professional
live showsThe fashion show gives the students the opportunity to show their creations in the setting of a professional
live show. For the young designers at Austria’s only school that offers training in fashion with a University degree the annual
fashion show is the veritable highlight of the academic year, enhancing careers and increasing their professionalization.
The Show Modeklasse attracts a great amount of public interest and has gained a high reputation within the past years. Therefore
there will be two shows again to allow as many interested people as possible to see the show: The first show starts at 6.30
pm, and the second one at 8.30 pm.

Successful
graduatesThe Angewandte is proud of its graduates’ success who often launch their own labels such as Bless,
house of the very island’s, Petar Petrov, Sagan Vienna (formerly Bradaric Ohmae), Ute Ploier or Wendy Jim. In many other cases
they take on management functions in the fashion industry or pursue successful careers working for renowned fashion companies,
such as Acne Studios, Balenciaga, Burberry, Junya Watanabe, Kenzo, Lanvin or Vetements.
The individualized 4-year training
program offers students the possibility to develop their skills and potential by designing and producing contemporary and
visionary collections of high technical and artistic quality under the supervision of a successful fashion designer.
