Circular Design × Sharing Economy

The Industrial Design department at the Dutch Design Week 2025

17. October 2025
At the Dutch Design Week 2025 in Eindhoven, students from the Industrial Design Department at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, led by Stefan Diez, present Circular Design × Sharing Economy. The exhibition showcases office furniture designed for the NORNORM subscription- based model — a framework that shaped every design decision around modularity and adaptability.
By shifting from ownership to access, the project explores how subscription systems can extend product lifecycles and align business goals with environmental responsibility. Manufacturers retain ownership, while users pay for access, and profit depends on durability and repairability. Responsibility for maintenance and recycling stays with producers, improving material recovery and keeping resources in circulation.

Rethinking ownership turns products into long-term resources — and opens up the possibility of more resilient systems.
