Forschungsprojekt „Sonderfall“ Angewandte

The University of Applied Arts began comparatively early to deal with art and cultural politics under National Socialism, at a time when the paradigm shift in the understanding of recent Austrian history was only beginning to emerge. Exhibitions such as Die Vertreibung des Geistigen aus Österreich: zur Kulturpolitik des Nationalsozialismus (1985) and Zeitgeist wider den Zeitgeist: eine Sequenz aus Österreichs Verirrung (1988) set the first milestones in this process, which were followed by important publications on the educational history of the applied arts. A few decades later, the history of one of Austria's most important art institutions during Austrofascism, National Socialism and the early post-war period is to be studied in depth in a new research project.
