The University of Applied Arts Vienna is seeking
a University Assistant (m/f/d, 8 h/w, initially on a one-year fixed-term contract, with the option of extension)
to join the Institute of Conservation from 1 October 2026.
Job requirements:
Training
as a photographer, a degree in photography or equivalent training
Experience in documentary object photography (studio
and outdoor)
Knowledge of museum and heritage conservation standards in photography
Enjoyment of practical
work with students
Experience in knowledge transfer and teaching
Willingness to undertake further training
(e.g. in infrared or UV photography)
Willingness to work at various locations in Vienna and elsewhere
Regular
attendance during teaching hours
Initiative, punctuality, and strong communication and improvisation skills
Excellent
German and very good English language skills
Job profile:
Project-based
work with conservation students within the practical conservation teaching and during the Institute’s project weeks
Practical
instruction in the production of documentary photographs of objects (e.g. paintings, textiles, decorative arts objects, archaeological
finds, small stone and metal monuments, historic interior fittings, buildings, façades, fountains, etc.)
Photographic
inventory and condition surveys of cultural heritage
Scientific photography of test series and laboratory experiments
Promotion
and further development of international standards for photographic documentation in museums and heritage conservation
Digital
data management and storage
Independent teaching (after one year in the event of the position becoming permanent)
Quality
control and contributing to the visual identity of the Institute
The minimum monthly salary for this
position is currently € 755.22 gross (14 payments per year, based on 8 hours per week) and may be increased
accordingly through the recognition of relevant prior experience in accordance with the Collective Agreement for Universities
(B1, salary scale for academic/artistic university staff).
