With this exhibition the Institute of Conservation (IoC) is putting on a retrospective devoted to the development of conservation sciences and conservation during the last twenty-four years at the University of Applied Arts Vienna under the directorship of Gabriela Krist. During this time, the already existing special study departments of object and painting were augmented with textiles and stone, and, focus was directed not only onto classical individual conservation, but also preventive conservation and collection care, also onto the preservation of cultural heritage in the international context and in times of climate change.

A wide range of current projects will be on show, for instance the conservation of contemporary art, textiles, classical oil paintings, stone objects, goldsmith works and historical utensils, commissioned by museums, ecclesiastical institutions and monument protection authorities.
Several lectures on conservation science accompany the exhibition. Live conservation work on site gives the public the opportunity to enter into dialogue and ask questions.
In this way “Conservator at Work” gives an impression of how conservators go about their work on the research and preservation of our cultural heritage, how they examine, conserve, analyse, communicate and discover the new, casting light on their activities in the interdisciplinary and international fields.
