The Applied-Photography and Time-Based Media Department is placing the encounter between
photography and the object at the heart of an exhibition as part of Vienna Design Week.
The
exhibition ZERO AND ONE CHAIRS was created as part of MATCH!, a recurring initiative organised by the Department of
Applied Photography and Time-Based Media, which explores the synergistic potential of student teams from different degree
programmes. In collaboration with the Industrial Design programme, led by Stefan Diez, this year’s focus was on the intersection
of photography and the object, with particular attention paid to the relationship with set design, styling, casting and narrative.
The
collaborative works are on display on the billboards at the university’s main entrance on Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz and at the
AIL – Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab.
„We touch things. Things bring together thought and feeling.
We
often feel at one with our objects.
‚We think with the objects we love. We love the objects we think with.‘ (Sherry Turkle
in ‚Evocative Objects‘)
How can the thing be brought to life through the lens?
What does its surface communicate?“
