FÊTE BLANCHE: Modeklasse X MAK
within the Helmut Lang – Séance De
Travail 1986–2005 exhibition
Within the retrospective of Helmut Lang at the MAK, the
MODEKLASSE of the University of Applied Arts Vienna stages a precise intervention. Outcomes of the white project by students
from Craig Green temporarily inhabit the floor plan of the Helmut Lang A/W 2004/05 show, repopulating that spatial blueprint
with the work of current students from the very institution where he once taught.
White functions
as the common thread: fragmentary, speculative, and unfinished where Lang was precise, but equally committed to reduction.
Silhouettes, structures, and movements respond to Lang’s radical reduction while extending it into a contemporary moment.
Accompanied by sound, the installation transforms the room into a living environment where fashion is not only displayed but
spatially articulated. Fête Blanche becomes a collective celebration: a younger generation filling the space with
new ideas, new bodies, and new futures for fashion.
