Vincent Moulinet - 'Politics of the unspectacular
: technology at play in a scarce real world'
Studio EXPERIMENTAL GAME CULTURES - in
dialogue with Margarete Jahrmann
When the industry-driven practice of real-time media arts employs
maximalist techno-aesthetics that echo the struggles of workers and their environments in the Global South, a new paradigm
emerges, rooted in the foundational ideals of cybernetics and permaculture.
Artists, hackers,
designers, and thinkers are developing minimalist approaches to game-making, focusing on knowledge transmission, practical
skills, and independence from capitalist technologies under the concept of "permacomputing." From game jams to international
exhibitions, real-time media evolves beyond visual arts into performance, emphasizing strong conceptual approaches and thoughtful
interaction rather than heavy graphics.
This lecture is presented by artist and curator Vincent Moulinet, organizer
of the European Permacomputing Game Jam, which took place on October 11th - 13th at #Experimental Game Cultures and seven
other institutions across Western Europe.
