Lav Diaz, has been labelled “the ideological father of the New Philippine
Cinema” by the Venice Film Festival. The Island Tides Initiative is fortuned to announce that we will be hosting the filmmaker
for an entire week (Oct. 14th-17th) this fall in Vienna. During this week we derived a dense program of moderated screenings
and workshops together with Diaz.
We will begin the event series with a moderated screening of the film “Norte,
hangganan ng kasaysayan” (Norte, the End of History) on Monday, October 14th, at 18:00 at the Austrian Filmmuseum.
“Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan” is a 2013 Philippine psychological drama film by Diaz, that explores themes of crime, class,
and family. Along the way Diaz criticises Filipino class politics, the abdication of responsibility by the intelligentsia,
and the foreign-worker phenomenon. In the process he creates a layered and emotionally powerful journey.

for the Filmmuseum screenings are available at their regular prices but a limited amount of tickets can be discounted to 3€

a
workshop with him on
October 15 & 17 at the Angewandte. These are limited places and
require participants to commit to attend all four days (screenings included).
