SPILL THE TEA

Gossip as a Form of Knowledge Sharing

Department of Artistic Strategies

Eisa Jocson’s and Venuri Perera’s MAGIC MAIDS highlights the working body, particularly female domestic labour from the Global South and the brown female body that performs it. Jocson and Perera delight us with a post-performance tea party discussion on how gossip is a strategy of information sharing and solidarity, one that circumvents and upends typical methods of ‘knowledge production’.
Jocson and Perera both hail from countries known for exporting labour to the West. In their duo MAGIC MAIDS, they highlight the working body, particularly female domestic labour from the Global South and the brown female body that performs. They examine the history of European witch-hunting and how it continues to influence the exploitation of female labour, in particular that of domestic workers from the Global South to the present day.
Due to limited capacity, we ask you to pre-register with us at islandtides.initiative@uni-ak.ac.at.
