Herwig Kempinger was born 1957 in Steyr. Studied at the Academy of Applied Arts Vienna (1976–1980),
Lecturer for media art at the Academy of Applied Arts Vienna (1984–1994).
Outstanding Artist
Award for Artistic Photography of the Federal Ministry of Education and Art (1987), Austrian Art Prize for Artistic Photography
of the Federal Ministry for Education and Art (1992), Cultural Prize of the State of Upper Austria for Artistic Photography
(2006), Prize of the City of Vienna for Fine Arts (2010).
Since 2013 President of the Vienna Secession.
Artist Lecture Series Vienna is artist run since its founding in 2010.
