When the Städtische Galerie Bietigheim-Bissingen
was founded in 1989, also the »Linocut today« prize has been inaugurated. Since then the city of Bietigheim-Bissingen has
been awarding it every three years, in 2022 it will be awarded for the 12th time. The »Linocut today« prize has become one
of the most important graphic arts prizes. Its aim is to support contemporary artists working in the linocut technique and
to encourage others to use this technique rich in tradition. “Linocut today” has made an essential contribution to the fact
that the linocut technique has established itself next to woodcut as a relief printing technique of equal importance.
»Linocut today« is endowed with three prizes of 5000 €, 3000 € and 2000 €. The prizes are awarded by a high level jury of
five persons newly formed for each competition. All award-winning works will be purchased for the linocut collection of the
Städtische Galerie Bietigheim-Bissingen. Furthermore, the jury decides on the purchase of three further works and determines
the exhibits for the exhibition at Städtische Galerie Bietigheim-Bissingen. An exhibition catalogue will be published. Each
artist can submit a maximum of three works. The submitted works must have been produced between 2019 and 2021 and may not
have been entered for any other competition. Only works created exclusively or mainly using the linocut technique can be submitted.
