Nepal Symposium - AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE
As invited
speakers Gabriela Krist and the team from the Institute of Conservation provide insights in earthquake response and conservation
activities in Patan, Nepal, at the International Symposium “After the Earthquake” on 22 and 23 October 2018 organized by the
Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna.
International Symposium
AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE
Research, Protection and Preservation of Nepal’s Cultural Heritage
The international symposium, organized by
the Austrian Academy of Sciences, is bringing together academics and heritage practitioners from Nepal, Austria, Germany and
the UK – archaeologists, philologists, anthropologists, epigraphists and conservators – who have been active in developing
research methods and approaches for protecting and preserving the cultural heritage of Nepal in the aftermath of the 2015
Gorkha Earthquake. The Institute of Conservation is prominently represented with two lectures on earthquake response and conservation
activities in Patan, Nepal, at this symposium.
Altogether the symposium will provide insights on new research approaches
to Nepal’s past, as well as on information about current steps being taken to protect its cultural heritage together with
stake-holder communities, particularly in the face of future earthquakes in this seismically active region.
