Students working in the field of intermedia and digital arts are invited to apply with their original projects.
Submissions are not bound to the theme of the festival; alignment with the theme is welcome but not required. The festival
awards three prizes and offers exhibition opportunities as part of its programme, thus encouraging contemporary artistic production
in the field of intermedia arts and digital practices.
This year’s edition
of the festival focuses on understanding the body in speculative digital futures, where it is no longer a stable biological
entity, but rather a fluid, data-transient and technologically augmented phenomenon. The focus is on the “body in relation”
– a body that emerges in relation to digital technologies, economic and political systems, and broader social conditions.
In doing so, it becomes embedded in networks, simulations and processes of continuous optimisation and transformation of identity
and materiality.
Submissions that directly address the body as biological
or speculative matter are eligible, as well as works that understand the body indirectly – as a point of entry into digital
systems, interactive environments, or networks where it becomes part of a broader technology-shaped space.
Your application should include:
- a short CV of the author with
contact details,
- proof of student status,
- a description of the
artwork (up to 500 words),
- photo, video and/or other visual material representing the work,
and
- portfolio or website with a presentation of your previous work.
MKC Maribor Youth Culture Centre, a public institution working in the fields of art, culture and youth sector,
will award the chosen projects the following prizes:
- the main award of 400 EUR (gross),
and
- two additional awards of 300 EUR (gross).
- The winning applicant
will be given the opportunity to have a solo exhibition in one of the MKC Maribor exhibition spaces (in 2027).
- Selected projects will be presented in a group exhibition at the 32nd MFRU, which will take place in Maribor between
2 and 11 October 2026.
MKC Maribor will provide the winning projects with an opportunity
to be showcased and promoted within the framework of the festival. We reserve the right not to award prizes in case of inappropriate
or substandard submissions, and to adjust the prize values according to available funds or the number of prizes awarded.
