Artist Talk - Digitale Kunst: Patrícia J. Reis
hacking
> touching < caring
Department
of DIGITAL ARTS/ Ruth Schnell
Starting from the belief that we are living through a new crisis of touch, in
particular in post-pandemic times and when digital interfaces are becoming more centred in visuality, Patrícia J. Reis
questions if technology can be an important asset to empower us to be in touch with each other, ourselves and the things of
the world? Throughout the creative methodology of hacking, touching and caring, Reis will offer an artist talk about her multidisciplinary
practice as an artist and a researcher.
Patrícia J. Reis
works as a media artist based in Vienna employing a practice that encompasses
different formats and media to examine
our relationship with technology. In her complex installations she often appeals to the visitor’s sensoriality in an intimate
and sensual way, encouraging them to become active participants. Seeking to subvert visuality as a primarily mode of experience,
she plays with technology as a mean to expand and stimulate corporeal perceptions in the viewer.
Reis has exhibited
her work frequently nationally and internationally in solo and group shows. In 2023 she was awarded with the Elise Richter
PEEK Grant by the FWF, in 2021 she was awarded with the Outstanding Artist Award in Media Art by the BKMÖES and was the artist
selected for the International exchange program IMPACT ART between Austria and San Francisco Bay in the USA, awarded by the
Arselectronica, BKMÖES and zero1.org.
Patrícia J. Reis is lecturing at the Digital Arts Department of University of Applied
Arts in Vienna since 2015.
