COGNITIVE ADVENTURES IN THE
DIGITAL AGE: THE FUTURE OF CREATION AND PRESERVATION 9 – 17 JULY
La Biennale Venice Summerschool 1/2016
will focus on questions and challenges like
• Will technologies based on digitalization, robotics, artificial intelligence,
biotechnology and quantum mechanics create a paradigm shift in a cultural creation and preservation; and in perceptions of
art, design and architecture?
• Can there consequently be a new role for art, design and architecture in society?
• What opportunities will arise, or have arisen, for the presentation and preservation of cultural heritage using these
new and emerging technologies?
• What if the deliberate demolition or accidental destruction of cultural monuments no
longer means their irretrievable extinction?
• What if advanced forms of producing and perceiving art, design and architecture
could give new significance to public spaces?
• How might scientific progress, in conjunction with creative skills and
enlightened thinking, change the rules of social life, politics and economics?
Participants will experience one
week of cognitive adventures by undertaking intellectual, physical and digital experiments. Guided and supported by artists
and theorists from various fields, the participants will have the opportunity to open up new perspectives for thinking and
acting in their professional life.
‘A World of Fragile Parts’, an exhibition organized by La Biennale di Venezia
and the Victoria and Albert Museum, explores the threats facing the preservation of global heritage sites and how the production
of copies can aid in the preservation of cultural artifacts.
