Wroclaw Concert Hall Semesterübung WS 05/ 06 Universität für angewandte Kunst, Wien - Architekturentwurf 2, o. Univ. Prof. Greg Lynn The opera house has been a historic site for architectural experiments in institutional identity and monumentality as well as the production of urban civic space. From Garnier to Scharoun to Nouvel to Gehry this legacy of an acoustically insulated interior and its expression through facade, circulatory space and lobbies has been a locus of architectural innovation.
The advanced task will focus on techniques for developing each student≠s individual architectural ambitions and artistic trajectory. We will refi ne a technique for combining a continuous thread of personal interest and architectural research with a project/typologically-specifi c analysis of the state of the fi eld and potentials for innovation. We will assume a high level of technical skill and conceptual ability.
The polish city of Wroclaw is currently hosting an international competition to design a concert hall on the city≠s main square. The competition brief will provide the functional and contextual framework for each students individual architectural agenda and ambitions. Previous studio projects and interests should be the starting point for the studio task. Eva Diem
