pioneering thinkers and creators who will explore our understanding of food and how it functions in our environment as it
intersects with art, culture, and science. Co-presented with Pratt’s School of Architecture, the event will feature expert
Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson: leader of the Grammy-winning hip hop group the Roots, director of music for “The Tonight Show
Starring Jimmy Fallon,” and best-selling author whose forthcoming book issomethingtofoodabout,”
Charlotte Birnbaum: writer and culinary historian based in Stockholm, and editor of the series “On the Table,” which examines
the relationship between art and food via themes such as the Baroque banquette and the cultural history of the napkin; and
Mark Ladner: executive chef of the Michelin star-rated Del Posto Restaurant in New York City; a recipient of the James Beard
Award for Best Chef: New York City; and recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from his alma mater, Johnson & Wales University.
Sanford Kwinter, architectural theorist and Pratt Institute School of Architecture professor, will moderate the conversation.
This event represents the kind of interdisciplinary explorations to be pursued as part of the new Pratt Kitchen initiative,
a design lab that will focus on projects, research, and events examining the connection between food and culture.
