For the 15th International Architecture Exhibition — La Biennale di Venezia, Goethe-Institut has created PERFORMING ARCHITECTURE,
a programme which brings the interfaces between architecture, choreography and the performing arts into focus. Picking up
cues from the exhibition at the German Pavilion “Making Heimat. Germany, Arrival Country” and the Biennale’s motto “Reporting
from the Front”, the programme transforms the urban space of Venice into a stage for artistic encounters, visions and explorations:
How do we sink into the experienced and built reality of our cities? How do we encounter other people in this reality? Which
values do they negotiate, which living spaces, which experiential spaces? What ideas of Heimat do they carry? Artists Fabrice
Mazliah, Johan Bettum, Björn Bicker, Malte Jelden and Michael Graessner, among others, develop experimental formats to explore
these questions, make encounters possible and create eeting places of exchange, which playfully shift boundaries and challenge
habituated forms and patterns of thought. By interacting with other art forms, architecture becomes a sensory experience and

Culinary Lessons is a conversation series which explores culinary art in interdisciplinary terms and as a canvas from which
valuable lessons may be learned for architecture. The series especially focuses on the art of cooking and its radical as well
as innovative transformation of matter into choreographed and carefully orches- trated social experience. Whether in the local,
political or aesthetic contexts, cooking is always an intensive, alchemistic experiment using materials in a socio-cultural
context. Culinary Lessons explores the historic and contemporary aspects of these relationships as a tableaux for artistic
and architectonic interests. Culinary Lessons will be performed later in Stockholm, Frankfurt and Istanbul and conclude the
PERFORMING ARCHITECTURE programme together with CONVIVIUMEPULUM at the end of October.
