Abstract „Boys in the Austrian School System and the Meaning of Male Teachers“ This contribution focuses – on the basis of empirical, school-based studies – male teachers, especially in primary schools. Thus, the author refers to the current discussion of failing boys and winning girls in which male teachers are claimed as a solution for the underachieving boys. Criticising this as a „doing gender organisation”-perspective, Claudia Schneider analyses the situation of boys and girls in school at first and disusses afterwards the real usefulness of male teacher for school socialisation by employing facts and figures. At last she presents an example for undoing gender in school.
