Angewandte mourns

04. November 2020
Dear university members,

I have the sad duty to inform you that one of our students was murdered in the terror attack in Vienna’s city center on Monday evening. Another student was seriously injured, he is in hospital and is out of danger after a successful surgery.

It is difficult to understand what happened on Monday evening in our immediate neighborhood. Words cannot describe the injustice of these events. All our sympathy, our grief and our compassion go to family and friends of the deceased. All our thoughts and wishes are with the injured student.
The terrible events of this week will leave deep traces. It is all the more important that we show consideration for each other and give place to our grief. The Angewandte will do everything possible to support all affected university members in this exceptional situation in the best possible way. The departments of both students will be provided with psychological counseling. Further psychological help will be available in the next few days, first information can be found below, more will follow. Do not hesitate to use this offers, talk to each other - let us be there for each other.

In deep sympathy
Gerald Bast
