Including Institutions Themselves

A public morning session as a contribution of the exchange in the cell “Through Phenomena Themselves” at the Research Pavilion #3 in Venice 2019

The investigation is organised inside the Cell format as a collaboration between the Uniarts Helsinki and University of Applied Arts Vienna at the Research Pavilion #3 in Venice Spring and Summer 2019.
“Through Phenomena Themselves” is the title of a shared investigation in “a network of practice-based research processes on phenomenabased and/or phenomena-oriented research practices”. The core focus is to explore “new possibilities of mutual enhancement, refinement and hybridization between specific artistic and phenomenological research practices.” But it seems that there is a “distance of phenomenologists to artistic practices”. This Saturday morning session will take a look at contexts and how some understanding of context helps to take care of the productivity of ”distance”.

At this very morning event we will contribute another layer, in an open panel conversation involving Alex Arteaga, Gerald Bast, Alexander Damianisch, Cordula Daus, Nikolaus Gansterer, Margarete Jahrmann, Ralo Mayer, Barbara Putz-Plecko, Charlotta Ruth, Katarina Šoškić. We will talk about institutions and how they set and shape action via a particular scaling of focus and free flow. So we will question distance and relation between theory and practice. It is the wish to relate and therefor investigate with institutional thinking, so join and provide your points of view.

General information: The Research Pavilion highlights the points of view of artistic research in the context of the world’s best-known contemporary art event in spring and summer 2019. It is set up now for the third time. The Research Pavilion #3 is a meeting place, a catalyst of emerging co-operations in the area of artistic research and a generator of new thinking: a battery of research cells capable of recharging artistic research with new energy. It is an ongoing project created and hosted by Uniarts Helsinki in cooperation with the Louise and Göran Ehrnrooth Foundation and together with the University of Applied Arts Vienna with the following international partner institutions: Aalto University, Valand Academy of Arts at the University of Gothenburg and Interlab Hongik University Seoul.
