PIXELvienna review
The annual Austrian conference for computer graphics and animation, PIXELvienna, is going
to take place for the tenth time in 2015. It has now almost become a tradition that after each
conference, a review magazine of the event is released. Therefore, this issue, once again, is
a review and summary of another legendary conference weekend!
Community is what every member contributes
Despite the jubilee of PIXELvienna, the computer arts and graphics industry in Austria is still in
development. Here, young CG artists have hardly any motivating local role models or maxims
for their careers – settled somewhere between art and industry. The platforms CGmag and
PIXELvienna, sharing the same parent organization, IG-Computergrafik, try to connect and
improve the professional lives of all players. We want to encourage people to work together
to evolve for the greater good. We try to prove and improve this year after year, to develop
the whole concept of a community organically.
Hot topics in this issue
This edition of CGmag contains best practice examples of how an animation studio could be
built up the soulful way, as well as how to survive as an indie game studio. We have some
inspiring summaries of concept artists‘ talks, as well as technical innovations for Hollywood
made in Austria. All in all, we collected a whole bunch of behind the scenes and background
information about the past conference and extracted hot topics of the talks of PIXELvienna 9.
On these grounds, there is, last but not least, the most important thing I have to say here:
A galactic, huge “Thank You!” to everyone that contributed their precious time to make this
magazine and the conference possible. All the people and volunteers involved are contributing
to create good vibes in the fields of the digital arts industry in Austria – step by step!
