"IMMUTABLE MOBILES – Kunst unter dem diagrammatischen Imperativ"
Bruno Latour introduced the notion of the immutable mobile in order to highlight and discuss the often overlooked, but yet
central role of image production in the field of science. Diagrams, technical drawings as well as lists have the capability
to affect beyond the realm of language-based arguments, which has historically led to paradigm shifts in the history of science. The
groupp exhibition Immutable Mobiles engages with these types of image production in the field of Fine Art. Since Marcel Duchamps
interest in diagrams and technical drawings, deployed in conjunction with his development of “beauty of precision”, that conceptually
enabled him to represent complex processes and relationships, artists have increasingly worked with these specific forms of
representation. Whether they critically employ the formal banality of statistical representations or develop their own universes
of modeling, the relationship between images and their role in scientific discourses becomes even more important when it emerges
as evidence in contemporary media. Immutable Mobiles presents different artistic approaches and strategies focusing on representational
conventions from the world of science. With work by Nikolaus Gansterer, Claude Closky, Isabella Kohlhuber, Brishty Alam. Curated
by Axel Stockburger.
