Preserving Archaeological Findings in Egypt

The tomb of Ankh-Hor in Asasif, a necropolis at Thebes, Egypt, was completely excavated by an Austrian mission in the 1970s. The objects found in the tomb date from the 6th century BCE until Roman times and include large amounts of precious coffins and wooden objects. All of them are in urgent need of conservation and consolidation and still undocumented.
In the framework of the Ankh-Hor Project conservation work started in 2018 in cooperation with the Austrian Archaeological Institute (ÖAI).
This year, five conservation students from the Institute of Conservation together with a conservator of ÖAI continue conservation work on the precious wooden objects from the tomb in the following weeks!
