Project proposals and portfolios for the exhibition program in the Kunstpavillon
and in the Neue Galerie of the Tiroler Künstler*schaft in Innsbruck
ProgrammingThe exhibition program for the Kunstpavillon and the Neue Galerie is put together in the main by a jury of art professionals,
selecting from submissions received in response to an open call. The call is sent to members of the association as well as
to national and international artists and curators. The jury of professionals is made up of one member of the board of the
association and the artistic director along with one external expert.
AssociationThe
Tiroler Künstler*schaft regards itself as a forum for contemporary art; as an association of artists, it promotes the freedom
and independence of art. The program encompasses all forms of contemporary artistic expression and represents a forum characterized
by its presentation of experimental, cross-disciplinary and sometimes controversial projects within a professional exhibition
context.
The association of artists, which has been in existence since 1946, runs an international program of exhibitions
in the rooms of the Neue Galerie in the Hofburg Innsbruck, as well as the Kunstpavillon in the Hofgarten. Since 2003, Künstlerhaus
Büchsenhausen has provided the framework to our International Fellowship Program for Art and Theory (call for entries in autumn
2019), for which four individuals are nominated each year. In addition to series of events, lectures and dialogues within
the regional art scene, the Tiroler Künstler*schaft represents the interests of those working in creative art in the Tyrol.
As such, it is also engaged in current cultural-political issues.
You will find information about the current and past
exhibition program at
www.kuenstlerschaft.at. Four exhibitions are envisaged in
both the Kunstpavillon and the Neue Galerie in 2020.
Exhibition SitesKunstpavillon:
The Kunstpavillon is located a few minutes’ walk from the city centre in the Kleiner Hofgarten. The building was constructed
in 1842 as the summerhouse of the regional governor. In 1950 it was renovated into a classical gallery lit from above. The
space is approximately 175 square metres large.
Neue Galerie:
Located on the ground floor of the Hofburg,
at the entry to Innsbruck’s old city centre, the Neue Galerie comprises approximately 95 square metres of exhibition space.
The historical arches have been general overhauled. In contrast to the Kunstpavillon, it is easy to make the space dark for
projections.
